Lacewings are a great ally to have in the garden. These voracious little eaters will make quick work of aphids, whiteflies, thrips, moth eggs, mealy bugs, scale, leafhoppers, and many other soft-bodied insect infestations. Hatched larvae, which don’t have wings and can’t fly away from your plants, will begin feasting immediately and can devour some 200 pests and their eggs each of the 2-3 weeks of their development cycle. Once they reach adulthood this predatory stage passes, and they’ll subsist on nectar, pollen, and honeydew. If your garden has an abundant food supply, the adult lacewings will be encouraged to stay in your garden, lay their eggs and keep the pest-decimation going.
